February already??

Heyyy yall! It’s been a while since it’s just been you and me; no camera, no poetry, no guests. Just you, me, and my thoughts. Life has been a bit cray, but don’t worry I will for sure fill you in! First and foremost, welcome back and happy Black History Month!!! I hope this month we each challenge ourselves to do a little bit more than recycle the same played out quotes/black history posters and dig a little deeper. Teach your kids and students about a lesser known African American that helped shape this country, support black owned businesses, or donate to one of the many organizations fighting tirelessly to uproot systemic racism. So yes, my dashikis and daily quotes on tha gram are great but this month is about so so much more. Do more.

Next, I want to say a huge thanks to you guys! Because of you, January 2021 was the highest traffic month I’ve had since launching this website. I don’t really care much about the numbers, but my heart is extremely full knowing you guys are reading, watching, and sharing things I create. I am humbled and so very grateful, thank you.

Writing poetry has been a passion of mine for practically my whole life. I could undoubtedly sit and write, read or critique poetry every single day. With that being said, I have been really bad about writing blog entries. Sorry. I get comments all the time saying that my entries are well written but yall… blogging about myself is HARD!! I am not a professional anything. Every bit of wisdom I share is hard won. I spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to understand my own thoughts and feelings so just imagine how hard it is to share them. I feel like I can only post about a situation that I have really, truly processed in depth and that’s where we run into trouble. Ya girl is an over thinker and very rarely am I ever done processing anything! Usually my processing continues until time runs out.

I may have a solution though! (Emphasis on the word may because yall know how I am.) Every week I do what I call a “Sunday Sitdown.” I fill out my planner and try to organize myself as much as possible for the upcoming week. Well I think I finally came up with a doable schedule that won’t overwhelm me and will consistently push out new things for the site. Get  ready to see a lot more of me because Bee just hit an upswing and I’m feeling real ambitious.

Thee Miss Bee - power to the people

Before I wrap up this dump of a post, let me fill you in on some of the life things that’s been keeping me preoccupied.

  • The boys and I have all returned to some form of hybrid learning/teaching.

  • I have written more in the past month than I did during the entire year of 2020 and it feels AMAZING!!

  • Have you read my post Seeing Red? Oh. Em. Gee. I saw Red!! It went really well and she actually helped ease my mind about unrelated life crap that I hadn’t even told her about.

  • I started a new part time job. ya girl works 7 days a week again...

  • I accepted a new full time position which meant I would no longer work for the school district.

  • I had an anxiety attack on my way to tell my principal that I'd be leaving and decided to stay. Bee cray

  • I joined a Creative Women’s Group with some super talented, encouraging souls. Having community feels great!

  • Last Friday, I was a panelist in a virtual workshop put on by the Poetry Foundation. (toot, toot)

That last one literally means nothing more than being an active participant in a zoom call but I have been flying so far out of my comfort zone lately and I am super super proud.

The next post (with actual writing) is scheduled for Sunday! It was going to include a short story and poem but the topic is kinda heavy. I’m thinking I’ll let the romantic saps out there enjoy their Valentine’s. Maybe I’ll switch it up and post a love poem instead... we’ll see.

There you have it: a brain dump and a promise to post more consistently. That’s all I got, see yall next week!

Creatively yours,

Miss Bee Organized. Consistent.
